Strawberries in Muscatel Wine
An ultra simple classic dessert typical of the Mediterranean areas between Spain
and Italy. Simply delicious and perfect on its own or after a rich dinner!
You will need per person:
a dessert cupful of strawberries
sweet Muscatel wine (some are sweeter than others)
Optional topping but highly recommended: crème fraîche beaten with a little milk and powdered sugar (use only enough to slightly sweeten the mixture).
Remove the tops from the washed and drained strawberries. Slice lengthwise (about three slices) and place in a bowl. Cover with Muscatel wine and allow to marinate at least 15 minutes.
Spoon into glass dessert cups or wine glasses, divide the wine and top with a little of the crème fraîche. Serve with a vanilla wafer or lady finger (long, oval sweet biscuits).
Note: of course, this is delicious without the topping and if you are in a hurry, don't marinate and enjoy as is!
